Welcome to the "Who Counts?" web site!
"Who Counts? Math Across the Curriculum for Global Learning" is a funded grant from the
Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) under the US Department of Education. Its purpose is to
incorporate mathematical reasoning assignments into non-STEM courses. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering
and math. The grant was given to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for a three-year period, 2007-2010.

One of the main initiatives of this grant is for non-STEM faculty members to incorporate
mathematical reasoning assignments into their courses. Fourteen members received grants to redesign their courses during
the summer of 2008; seventeen received grants in 2009.
Additionally, the grant provides the means to publish a Global Missions Guidebook, Pathways
to a Life that Counts. The first edition was distributed to all incoming freshmen in August 2008. Intended
to be used throughout their college days, the book contains four sections: Government and Inclusion, Peace and Justice,
Solidarity with Others, and Stewardship of the Human and Natural Environments. The second edition will be distributed
at Orientation in August 2009.
