Welcome to the "Who Counts?" web site!

"Who Counts?  Math Across the Curriculum for Global Learning" is a funded grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) under the US Department of Education.  Its purpose is to incorporate mathematical reasoning assignments into non-STEM courses.  STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and math.  The grant was given to Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for a three-year period, 2007-2010.

One of the main initiatives of this grant is for non-STEM faculty members to incorporate mathematical reasoning assignments into their courses.  Fourteen members received grants to redesign their courses during the summer of 2008; seventeen received grants in 2009.

Additionally, the grant provides the means to publish a Global Missions Guidebook, Pathways to a Life that Counts.  The first edition was distributed to all incoming freshmen in August 2008.  Intended to be used throughout their college days, the book contains four sections:  Government and Inclusion, Peace and Justice, Solidarity with Others, and Stewardship of the Human and Natural Environments.  The second edition will be distributed at Orientation in August 2009.

The Community Partners program will generate project-based learning activities that will benefit both the Community Partners and the students at Marquette University.

The Global Missions Student Contest is accepting submissions until April 1st, 2010.  Students can showcase their projects via any format.  Click on "Student Contest" on menu at left.

The first workshop of the academic year will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009.  It will be held in Beaumier Suites B&C in Raynor Library basement.  It begins at 10:15am.  Library opens at 10am.
